Purpose:

Athene has established a Canadian Service Company in order to continue to attract and develop professional talent and to support business units in the West Des Moines and Bermuda locations. Reporting to the Director of Valuation in Toronto, Athene seeks a dynamic and proactive individual to join their actuarial valuation team focusing on the internal capital model. Although this role is located in the Canadian Office, collaboration with teammates in both Canada and Bermuda as well as various stakeholders throughout Athene locations will occur.

Accountabilities:

  1. Prepare financial reports and maintain the Internal Capital Model (ICM).
  2. Build analytics and maintain movement analysis related to all parts of the ICM balance sheet.
  3. Develop ongoing methodology refinements including but not limited to refining the capital framework (adding risks).
  4. Interface with other Actuarial functions and provide new business support.
  5. Work with asset managers and risk department to review asset and ALM considerations.
  6. Review and investigate modeling results, working closely with the modeling teams.
  7. Communicate results to senior management.
  8. Document and build out necessary controls.
  9. Improve and modernize parts of valuation and financial reporting processes.

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial science or related field and completion of at least 3 exams and actively working towards ASA/FSA designation, plus at least 5 years of experience.
  2. Strong interpersonal skills preferred.
  3. Excellent oral and written English language skills.
  4. Experience with Python, PowerQuery and SQL preferred.
  5. Demonstrated experience within Actuarial modeling software such as AXIS preferred but not required.
  6. Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage several projects is a must.
  7. Demonstrated desire to take initiative and run with projects.
  8. Experience with any of the following would be beneficial:

  10. Principal Based Reserving
  11. Asset-Liability management
  12. Internal Capital Model
