About the Role
CNN is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our Registration and Subscriptions team. This is an exciting opportunity for a developer passionate about building high-quality digital products that deliver both business value and exceptional user experiences.
As part of our team, you’ll help shape the future of CNN’s digital offerings—including direct-to-consumer subscription products, premium news features, and innovative technologies that connect with global audiences. About the Team
The Registration and Subscriptions team focuses on creating engaging, user-centric experiences that foster direct relationships with our audience. We collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, and analysts to identify growth opportunities, test new features, and optimize user journeys.
Our mission is to expand CNN’s registered user base and support the development of new subscription products. This team plays a key role in driving digital revenue growth and innovation within Warner Bros. Discovery’s broader digital strategy.
Our tech stack includes JavaScript, Node.js, Python, Svelte, Sass, and AWS services. Flexibility and proficiency across the full stack are assets as we evaluate tradeoffs in software engineering and experimentation. We enjoy balancing user needs, current technical strengths, emerging technologies, and team growth. We value the ability to choose (or invent) the right tool for the job as a critical part of our success.
The Daily
- Contribute to software development, learn from peers, ask questions, and grow as an engineer.
- Engage in full stack development with JavaScript, HTML/CSS & Responsive design.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (Scrum, Planning, Retrospectives, Demos).
- Write unit tests using frameworks such as Jest, Jasmine, and Mocha.
The Essentials
- 2–4 years of professional software development experience.
- Proficiency in JavaScript.
- Excited to learn and take on new challenges.
- Excellent communication skills with team members and peers.
- Passionate about improving the quality of your code.
- Positive attitude towards contributing to CNN’s culture, both interpersonally and technically.
The Nice to Haves
- Understanding of engineering best practices, design patterns, reviews, testing, and alerting.
- Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Knowledge of relational databases, SQL, and NoSQL.
- Experience with A/B testing and consumer testing platforms.
- Familiarity with other programming languages, frameworks, platforms, APIs, and SDKs.
- Knowledge of Operations, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
