Job Description
Tru Inc. is actively hiring a UX/UI Specialist to support early-stage design strategy, turning complex client and business input into clear user flows, structured wireframes, and actionable insights. We’re looking for a detail-oriented, process-driven designer who thrives at the start of the design cycle—comfortable with ambiguity, skilled at structuring ideas, and adept at translating them into visual form. This is a full-time role with an immediate start available, reporting to the UX Lead.
The UX/UI Specialist is someone who excels in the early phases of the design process—connecting business goals with user needs, creating clarity from complexity, and making ideas tangible through wireframes and flows.
You’ll collaborate closely with strategists, UX leads, and clients to frame problems, clarify requirements, and surface design opportunities. While UI skills are a plus, this role is rooted in UX—focusing on research support, experience mapping, and mid-fidelity wireframing. If you enjoy problem-solving before pixel-perfect design begins, this role is for you.
Why This Role Matters: The UX/UI Specialist ensures that Tru’s digital products are built on a foundation of clarity, usability, and strategic alignment. By structuring early ideas into tangible outputs, you’ll help teams and clients make smarter design decisions and avoid costly missteps down the line. As we grow, this role will be integral in scaling our UX practice and refining how we translate insight into action.
Location: This role is remote, offering the flexibility to work from home. However, candidates must reside in either the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and be prepared to attend in-person meetings as required. Occasional travel may be necessary for team sessions, client workshops, or project kickoffs.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Attend client and internal meetings as a UX representative.
- Capture key details, ask clarifying questions, and surface UX considerations early.
- Help connect business objectives with user needs from the outset.
Research & Strategy Support
- Assist with early-stage UX research, heuristic evaluations, and experience mapping.
- Conduct competitive audits and synthesize findings into actionable direction.
- Collaborate with UX leads to shape design strategy.
User Flows & Wireframing
- Create user flows, diagrams, and system maps to clarify product direction.
- Draft ad hoc wireframes in Figma to visualize ideas and guide early conversations.
- Apply usability principles and heuristic guidelines to improve experiences.
Workshops & Presentations
- Support workshop planning, note-taking, and facilitation.
- Assist in preparing decks and presentations of UX strategy or research findings.
Cross-functional Support & Ops
- Organize working files, research insights, and documentation.
- Support project coordination tasks such as tracking timelines or deliverables.
- Contribute to smooth handoffs from UX to UI and development teams.
What You’ll Bring (Experience & Skills):
- UX-first mindset; UI skills a plus, but not required.
- Proficiency in Figma, especially for mid-fidelity wireframes.
- Strong grasp of usability best practices and heuristic evaluation principles.
- Ability to thrive under tight timelines and shifting requirements.
- Comfort working in fast-paced, collaborative environments.
- Bonus: Experience in UX research, UI design, or project coordination.
Success Metrics:
- Clear, accurate user flows and wireframes that guide project direction.
- Positive client and internal feedback on clarity and collaboration.
- Research insights that inform design decisions and reduce rework.
- Smooth, timely handoffs to UI and development teams.
- Measurable contribution to project success and client satisfaction.
