Role Mission & Mandate

The VP, Clinical Learning is a strategic leader responsible for advancing clinical excellence and veterinary development across the network. Grounded in our values and purpose, they champion a culture of continuous learning, mentorship, and professional growth that empowers veterinarians to thrive throughout their careers.

Reporting to the Chief People Officer and in close partnership with Medical Leadership, Operations, and Support Office teams, the VP, Clinical Learning designs and delivers high-impact learning strategies that align with clinical priorities and evolving patient needs. They drive the development of scalable programs supporting onboarding, skill advancement, and medical leadership, ensuring consistency in care and confidence across diverse practice settings.

The role focuses on clinical quality, engagement, and retention, contributing to our strategic pillars: More Patients, More Complete Care, Inspire Our People, and Build a Stronger Network Together. The VP builds the capabilities of our medical teams, supports high standards of care, and creates pathways for veterinary success.

Accountabilities

Leadership Accountability

  • Clinical Excellence: Support high-quality medicine through alignment and routines.
  • Upskilling & Capability Building: Identify skill gaps using tools like skill matrices and referral data. Develop learning solutions to elevate standards of care and support quality improvement.
  • Standardization & Best Practices: Ensure content reflects current practices, SOPs, and standards. Promote consistency through accessible, tailored learning experiences.

Leading Our People

  • Medical Talent Growth & Engagement: Build development pathways for veterinarians at all career stages. Partner with Medical Leadership to ensure programs support retention and engagement.
  • Team Leadership & Collaboration: Lead a team of clinical learning professionals. Foster collaboration with Medical Directors, RMDs, and stakeholders.

Exceptional Client Care

  • Client-Centered Clinical Communication: Develop programs to enhance communication, client education, and decision-making. Empower vets to build trust and deliver exceptional experiences.

Leading the Business

  • Clinical Learning Strategy & Execution: Design and implement scalable learning strategies aligned with medical priorities, improving practice performance and supporting growth.

Financial Management

  • Learning Operations & Efficiency: Manage budgets, platforms, vendors, and CE investments. Promote digital learning to maximize reach and cost-effectiveness.
  • Outcomes & Impact Measurement: Define success metrics, leverage data for value demonstration, and continuous improvement.

Success Metrics

Success is measured by leadership, operational performance, and strategic alignment, including:

  • Veterinarians completing onboarding and development programs
  • Improved clinical skills, reduced leakage
  • Veterinarian retention and satisfaction within 24 months
  • Positive clinical care KPIs
  • Program engagement, NPS, and quality ratings

Experience Profile

  • DVM or equivalent; licensed or eligible in Canada
  • 7-10+ years veterinary practice, with clinical credibility and leadership
  • 5+ years in clinical education or learning & development
  • Experience mentoring veterinarians and supporting growth
  • Skilled in adult learning, digital, in-person, experiential formats
  • Proficient in LMS, instructional design, CE management
  • Strong strategic thinking and execution skills
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives
  • Collaborative leadership style, influencing across teams
  • Data-driven approach for continuous improvement
