e-Zinc is an energy storage venture based in the Toronto area with a breakthrough technology poised to disrupt the market. As the global energy grid moves to higher levels of penetration of renewable energy, there is a surging need for affordable, flexible, long-duration energy storage. e-Zinc is uniquely positioned to meet this demand as the first company in the world to “metalize” electricity.

Backed by over CAD $80 million in funding from leading global strategic and financial investors – such as Toyota Ventures, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Eni, Evok Innovations, and BDC – e-Zinc has garnered international recognition for its proprietary technology and visionary roadmap. Highlights include:

  • Named to the Global Cleantech 100 for four consecutive years (2022–2025)
  • $1M Grand Prize winner of the Impact Canada Charging the Future Challenge
  • Awarded a $1.6M grant from Breakthrough Energy Solutions Canada
  • Secured over $12M in funding across three projects from Sustainable Development Technology Canada ( now The National Research Council of Canada )
  • Recipient of a USD $1.3M grant from the California Energy Commission

As e-Zinc moves toward commercialization, e-Zinc is expanding its team to bring our transformative technology to market and support the future of renewable energy.

e-Zinc is seeking an experienced and talented Product Engineering leader to bring e-Zinc’s first of its kind energy storage system to market. As VP Product Engineering, you will lead the strategy and execution of product engineering across e-Zinc’s hardware portfolio, including cell, pack, and DC-BESS. You will be responsible for overseeing the mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering of the company’s hardware portfolio and translating product vision into commercially viable energy storage systems through disciplined engineering, cross-functional collaboration, and product scale-up. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), you will play a key role on the Technology and Product Engineering leadership team.

Position Scope and Responsibilities

Product Engineering Leadership

  • Define and execute the engineering roadmap to bring zinc-based energy storage systems from prototype to production ready.
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams ( electrochemical, mechanical, electrical, controls and integration) across product development stages — from concept design to field-ready systems.
  • Drive product architecture, modularity, design for manufacturability (DFM), reliability, and performance optimization.
  • Establish and maintain engineering best practices, design controls, engineering systems, engineering review processes, and technical documentation.
  • Oversee the build out, assembly, and testing of prototype cells, packs, and DC-BESS units as part of the engineering verification process and field deployments.

Strategic Leadership & Execution

  • Translate product and commercialization goals into technical execution plans aligned with timelines and budgets.
  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team to prioritize engineering resourcing, timelines, and capital investments.
  • Evaluate and de-risk technical trade-offs and drive iterative development cycles using learnings from lab, field, and customer deployments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
